NAMASTE.

What does “Namaste” Mean? Pronounced nʌməs-te or nama-stay

Most often translated as “I honor the spirit in you that also resides in me,” Namaste is a common spoken valediction  or salutation originating from the South Asian Hindus and Buddhists. It is a customary greeting when individuals meet, and a valediction upon their parting. A non-contact form of salutation is traditionally preferred in India and Nepall; Namaste is the most common form of such a salutation.

When spoken to another person, it is commonly accompanied by a slight bow made with hands pressed together, palms touching and fingers pointed upwards, in front of the chest.

I want to try Zumba for the first time and am not sure what to expect or what shoes to wear. What is the warmup/cool-down? Can you please point me to some info or fill me in on Zumba-etiquette? Thank you!!

    • Gayla says:

Etiquette is have fun, be comfortable, most people wear an aerobic shoe or something with a little slide, depending on your preferences. Try on some shoes on a tile floor and skate around a bit…that will help you decide. Too much catch on the floor can twist your knees too much, to little and we land on our behinds. Always warm up and cool down tracks!

  4. Marsha says:

I’d like to be including on your email list for upcoming specials and events. Currently I do not attend your facility, but may be interested in trying some classes. Thank you.

    • Gayla says:

Thank you. Look to the right of any page, at the top, enter your email address, you will be sent a verification email to ensure you really want to. Namaste.

I have been going to Zumba at Namaste for about 6 weeks now and I am down 17 pounds and 3 inches in the waist! I love going there! They make you feel comfortable, the other students are great and each instructor is unique and have a genuine interest in their students. I can’t wait to go to class each time I go. The instructors are easy to follow and are super energetic. I have never been one who felt comfortable leaving the house to exercise around strangers judging me or to go to a big conglomerate gym where you are a number, but going to Namaste is completely different. Try it, you will love it!!!

  12. Hi Gayla! Thank you for the example about Hot Yoga. That happened to me! Not stroke, but within hours of coming home from my first Bikram Yoga class, I was nauseas, dizzy, had a migraine and was eventually throwing up for 24 hours after the class. I have NEVER been back. They told me “You didn’t drink enough water” even though I drank plenty of water or “You wore clothing that didn’t breathe” (I had on my regular tank top with long yoga pants). It made me so sick…that I have NEVER been back to a hot yoga class.

    • Gayla says:

Thank you for sharing that Jen…it’s what they are trained to say and this happens to many many people out there. Drinking MORE water at that point may be detrimental and make the symptoms worse (like giving a starving person a huge plate of pasta) sending the system into shock.

  13. In follow up to my comment above…I forgot to mention it was OVER 90 degrees, they didn’t let anyone leave or stop the exercising the entire hour. I actually have done a “warm yoga class” since then with milder temps … and it was wonderful.

    • Gayla says:

Exactly =) Forcing people to stay in a heated room is unethical. We are adults, we don’t have to ask permission to use the bathroom and we don’t have to do what we don’t wanna!

  14. Kari says:

Hello! I came to the Ashtanga LED yesterday and my muscles are really feeling it!!! Should I take a break until my muscles aren’t sore anymore or continue through the soreness? It’s only my second yoga class ever so I’m not sure what’s the norm.

  15. Ashley says:

    Hello,
I have a couple of questions:
What items are required for your beginners yoga class? -and-
What clothing is considered optimal for movement, etc.?

    Thank you so very much.
    - Ashley

    • Gayla says:

You should bring a mat, towel and/or hand towel, water and your questions.

clothing is a personal choice. Loose or short T shirts can be distracting as we tug and pull on them or they flop open when we are upside down. Form Fitting leggings or tights under shorts, whatever your preference =) Be comfortable and able to move.

  16. Karen H. says:

I came there and received a massage awhile back and it really helped. I have had a lot of horrible things happen and I suffer from Fibromyalgia so stress intensifies the pain. I am overweight and have developed type 2 diabetes. I really just have no idea where to begin to make a change.

    • Gayla says:

Hello Karen =) Our webserver was hacked and we lost access to reply for well over a month. Please call our office to make another appointment and get you out of pain! 702-979-9050

  17. Laura says:

I have a torn miniscus in my right knee. Although not too bad at the current time, my orthopedist says not to twist the knee. Should this be a deterent to doing beginning yoga? I have not attended a class yet because I wanted to find out if it would be recommended.

    • Gayla says:

Apologies for the delay, due to a hacking attempt we have been locked out for over a month. I have sent an email to you, however I cannot tell if your email address is an ‘i’ or an “l” =) Give us a call at 702-979-9050

  18. FM Knight says:

Are you going to offer Bellydancing classes this year?

    Thanks!

    FMK

    • Gayla says:

We have Belly Dance on Tuesday nights at 7PM. apologies for the delayed response, our web host/server was hacked into resulting in a shut-down in access to our dashboard. Hope to see you soon!

  19. Ashleigh says:

    Hi Gayla,

I was interested in signing up for the hot yoga class with a few friends. I stopped by the studio and it was closed. When would be a good time to swing by to possibly check out the studio? Also, has the monthly price of hot yoga changed? And is it month to month the same price? Sorry for the many questions haha im just ready to get my yoga on :)

    -Ashleigh

    • Gayla says:

Hello! We are sometimes closed between classes, usually between 1pm and 4:30pm. We do have an app you can download into your Android or iPhone that opens to the daily schedule. As of now there are no pricing changes. See you soon!

  20. Matilde Torres says:

Hello, Im interested in taking Zumba classes. Do I need to register before or can I just go that same day?

  21. Lizzete says:

Hello. I was interested in taking your hot yoga classes. Are we allowed to just drop in any time and take class, or must we do appointment? Thank you very much. C:

  22. Stephanie says:

I was a student at Northwest Yoga, which sadly, closed in April. I have stopped by your studio several times but found it closed. I am interested in the Vinyasa and Restorative classes. When is the best time to stop by to speak to someone about the studio and classes offered?

  23. Yazmin Cubillo says:

    Hi,
I would like to know about Yoga classes( prices, hours), I never been in yoga classes, but I heard that it helps with the back pain!
    Thank you for your help!
    Yazmin

    • Gayla says:

Hello Yazmin! Yoga can help depending on what is causing your pain. Drop in on a class, click the schedule tab for times, and lets see what we can do for your back pain.

  24. Jill Davis says:

I want to try the Piloxing class tomorrow night can I just show up or register first! Thanks

  25. Brenda says:

Do you offer a new member single yoga class for me to check out the studio?

  26. Frances Murray says:

Would like to take your 6:30 beginner yoga. What do I need to bring with me.

    • Gayla says:

The website isn’t obviously the best place to ask questions as we get hacked a lot (WordPress is working on that) Please call our office =) Bring a mat towel and water.

  27. Caryn Grady says:

    Hi Gayla,
I had been coming last year when I bought a group of classes. Now that it is summer again I wanted to come back. I’m sure my extra classes have expired, how much are the 10am classes again?

  28. Norma Stephenson says:

Hi can I bring my girls to do yoga with me ?? They are 8/11 and I think it would be very good for the let me know thanks Norma ;-)

    • Gayla says:

Hello = ) We are friendly towards children though feel that under 12-13 yrs is a bit too soon to bring them to an adult class. If you mean to ask if they can hang around, sure =) We do have parents who bring their young ones to watch iPad movies and play games while they do their yoga. Call if you have questions.
